Who of us fails to remember “Sabouha” song!
Said Abdel Naeem al-Nubi was among the pioneer of artists to sing the poems of Yemeni poet Farid Mohammed Barakat. The “Sabouha” song was and still is a hit that is played at most weddings which always adds a special flavor to our social events.
Said al-Nubi is the son of the Hadhrami artist Abdul Naeem Khamis al-Nubi, a Qanbūs player; a traditional Yemeni musical instrument. He was born in 1905 in the city of al-Shahr in Hadhramaut and was brought up among a lot of writers, poets, composers, and artists. Al-Nubi was also first to sing for al-Mehdhar.
He had the title of Sheikh of artists because of his long life spent singing and playing various rhythms, where he lived through multiple generations at the scene of Hadhrami and Yemeni art. He died in 2010 at the age of 105 years, may God rest his soul.
Yemen used to be and as such was our Heritage.
