The Poetry and Literature Icon, he was known as “The Seer Observer”. He had a deep insight through which he recounted the reality with the impartiality that preceded his time.  And the ugliest victory … is the victory of the powerful without Apprehend…  but apprehend how much they sold … and how much they earned.

Written by the poet and literary critic, historian, and teacher … Abdullah Saleh Hassan Al-Shahf Al-Baradouni… The prolific poet was born in 1929 in the village of Baradon in Dhamar Province. He lost his sight at the age of six because of smallpox disease, but he emerged among the best contemporary poets in Yemen and the Arab world for being one of the conservatives of the Arabic poem.

He completed the memorization of the Quran in his childhood and was imprisoned in the era of Imam Ahmad Hamid Al-Din because of his struggle against reactionary and dictatorship. His books dealt with political issues related to his country, most notably the conflict between the republican and monarchical regime that fell after the revolution of 26 September 1962. His poems tended to be ridicule and elegiac, and he relied on Classical Arabic for most of his work.

Of his poetical works are “Land Of Balqis”, “In The Way Of Dawn” and “The City of Tomorrow” among other rich literacy work.

The iconic poet Abdullah Saleh Hassan Al-Baradouni died on August 30, 1999. May God’s mercy be upon him.

Yemen used to be, and as such were our poets.

In faith and love, I am part of mankind,

And I shall march first among the Arabs.

And my heartbeat shall remain that of a Yemenite.

No foreigner shall ever hold dominion over Yemen.

Abdullah Abdulwahab Noman, a writer, and journalist who was born on September 17,  1917, in the district of al-Hajaria, the district of Taiz. He grew up in his hometown and learned the principles of reading and writing by his father and then by his cousin. He also received knowledge in the city of Zabid by Sheikh Abdullah al-Ma’zabi, who was one of the city’s most famous scientists.

Noman was known in the literary circles for the name of his newspaper “Al-Fudhool” which translates to “Curiosity” until his name was overshadowed by his title. The newspaper was published biweekly and sometimes once a month. It continued to be published for five years and despite its short life and limited issues, it is recorded to be the first in the history of  Yemeni press.

Noman was keen to collect his poetry in preparation for its printing, but he passed away before it happens, that’s why his only poetic work (Fayrouzah) was published after his death. His complete poetic works have yet to be printed, which is close to a hundred poems.

The poet Abdullah Abdul Wahab Noman died on July 5, 1982, on his bed in Taiz following a heart attack, at the age of 65.

Yemen used to be, not much of a difference!

We brought you everywhere in yemen..yemen AlEman, we go riding the knights ..the field knights” the literal translation of the ‘Forsan Almaydan’ tv show theme song that always kept us waiting every night in Ramadan!
The show first aired on the local official channel in 1994, which was constructed of different segments. In the first segment, he would ask various cultural questions to people he’d encounter on the street. Then he would take us on a field tour in one of the famous areas in Yemen and sometimes he would present us with a simple spiritual segment. Yahya then would conclude the program by hosting some of the folk games competitions where the winner wins a prize.
Yahya’s name is still associated with Ramadan even after he’s gone for the impact he left in people’s lives throughout his life and career.
