Faisal Alawy a folk singer who was added much to the traditional Lahji art and gained great recognition upon it until he became one of the Lahji art icons

He was born in Tibn, district in 1949 in Lahj governance. He was remarkably recognised on both the national and regional level and had a great role in the retrieval of the Lahji art in the region. Furthermore, Alawi was a great Oud player where he used to add chords upon the Oud chord to play almost w with 18 chords. He used to also be a solo melodist who got much braise and love from the people. He sang his most popular songs in the Makhdara, which is a social tradition held at weddings where the artist sings in the honor of the groom with the crowd cheering all around. Alawi then started his own band and moved to the gulf countries where he focused more on the development of his Lahji music.

Alawi died after a battle with illness on Sunday 7th February, 2010.

Among his most famous songs are “The King of Oud” “ pioneer of Lahji songs” and “Melodist”.

That’s how Yemen used to be, and that’s how our artist Faisal Alawi used to be
